The Deadline

Showing next in the theate is The Deadline, by Shifting Sands Theatre Company. The show is an exciting collaboration with Nottingham based writer Andy Barrett. Directed and co-devised by Gerry Flanagan with design by Julian Hanby.

A man wakes up. His head is aching. He doesn’t know where he is or how he got there. There are signs of a struggle.

He feels eyes on him yet he is alone. Looking for clues, he finds a typewriter. And by it lays an unfinished manuscript.

He starts to read. It tells the story of a conspiracy, a plot to murder the writer. The victim is trying desperately to finish the book, to reveal all before it is too late.

He hides the book when a knock at the door ushers in a succession of characters - detectives, a housekeeper, a terrorist, drunken postman, a femme fatale, a plumber, his best mate. They question him, seduce him, plead with him, torture and trick him. They are all desperate to find out what he is doing there, who has the book and if the writer met THE DEADLINE.

Baffled yet tantalised he struggles to piece together the scraps of information they feed him. But nothing is quite what it seems.

Part grotesque whodunit, part psychological thriller, part absurdest drama THE DEADLINE is an invitation to a world where memories are dismantled and stories unfurled, as unexpected narratives meet startling imagery.

Wednesday 5th March, 7.30pm.
Tickets are £6 adults, £5 students
